Dec. 28th, 2019 11:47 pm[it's been a pretty exhausting tour. she's used to them, by now...
but a lot's happened in the last few months. the last year, really. Lars went back off into space, and as usual, Sadie did a pretty good job of pretending to be pretty unconcerned about that. Shep was a welcome distraction she gladly poured herself into, and for a while, the distance didn't bother her too much. but back in Beach City, it made Sadie feel a little listless, sometimes. she craved the intimacy of doing nothing with her partner, something she'd had more than an ample taste for in her relationship before Shep—as disastrous as that had been...
and when Sadie expressed this, Shep suggested that Sadie simply move up to where they were. which was dizzying, and romantic, and so sweet—tempting, too.
but Sadie found herself unable to do it. she couldn't leave behind her mom, who would be so lonely without her, who... honestly, she'd never admit it, but Sadie's income was helpful. Shep implored they just make music and tour out of Shep's hometown, but that gave Sadie some anxiety; Sadie Killer and the Suspects had been founded on Sadie's own sense of identity... but everyone was moving on. growing up.
and what was Sadie doing?
though amicably met, it eventually lead to Sadie and Shep splitting. she's not sure if they'll reconvene in the future, and they're still talking... and that was a few months ago.
hanging out with everyone after their concluding show at Beach City, Sadie finds herself distracted. nostalgic, wistful, maybe confused—is she wrong, for wanting to stay in Beach City? is she doing that thing she does, sometimes, where she stagnates because of comfort? because of fear of venturing out?
the fact that she wonders where Lars went (she'd seen him somewhere in the crowd while they were performing, though briefly) feels painfully indicative, but Sadie hopes she's wrong. Jenny points out that Sadie seems a little spaced out, and Sadie puts down her shitty tall boy of malt liquor, still about half full.]
Yeah. I'm just a little tired, I guess. I think I'm actually gonna hit it.
[Sadie gives her obligatory "good set"s, "thank you"s and "goodnight"s, and...
she decides to look for Lars. she somehow feels to lame, too squirmy and embarrassed, to just...text him and see where he's at. he's been gone for about a year, and they've talked less and less since the first time he came back to Earth. right after he... died.
of course, them reconnecting hasn't really been too successful in the past. not bad, but not...great. but there's an ease in that Sadie's missing. it's not like she never misses him, or thinks of him, and... well. it can't hurt to try and see how he's doing, right? it's not like they never catch up; they're usually fairly up to date on each other's major life stuff...
so she's relieved when she spots Lars closer to the main drag off the beach stage, keeping her casual cool-head that adulthood's trained her to have as she approaches him.]
Hey! Lars, [she greets casually, giving him a little wave.] What're you up to?
[she doesn't see him with his usual troupe... she wonders why he's even back. maybe he'll feel like talking about it. if not, it'd just be nice to sit and chat a little.]
